India is the world's second largest
producer of food next only to China. It has the potential
of becoming the biggest with the food and agricultural sector
contributing around 26% of India's total GDP.
The present value of the food processing industry is Rs70
billion and is expected to double by 2006, reaching Rs140
billion. There have been changes in food habits pushing for
more value-added products. It is predicted that both processed
food exports and value-added agricultural produce will grow
faster in the coming years, enabling the food processing industry
in India to earn profits in leaps and bounds. The sector is
expected to attract phenomenal investment, capital, human,
technological and financial of over Rs 1,40,000, crores in
the next decade.
The total food production in India is likely to double in
the next ten years and there is an opportunity for large investments
in food and food processing technologies; skills and equipment,
especially in the areas of Canning, Dairy and Food Processing,
Specialty Processing, Packaging, Frozen Food, Refrigeration
and Thermo Processing. Fruits & Vegetables, Fisheries,
Milk & Milk Products, Meat & Poultry, Packaged, Convenience
Foods, Alcoholic Beverages Soft Drinks, Mineral Water
and Food Grains.
In the light of the above, Confederation of Indian Industry
is organizing its first flagship event Food & Bev Tech
2006, scheduled between 9 11 November 2006 at Bandra-Kurla
Complex, Bandra (East), Mumbai/India.
The event aims at providing an excellent platform to showcase
the latest machinery, equipment, raw materials & accessories
required by the Indian Food and Beverages manufacturing industry.
