  Visit of INS Tabar
 
 
     

  INS Tabar, a guided missle frigate, visited Fremantle, Western Australia, from 15-18 June and Sydney from 25-28 June. The ship hosted receptions in both ports and was open to visitors for a day each. It conducted exercises with the Australian Navy after sailing from Fremantle and Sydney ports.
Attorney General Hon. Philip Ruddock, several MPs and senior officials attended the reception hosted by INS Tabar in Sydney on 25 June. High Commissioner H.E. Mr. P.P. Shukla visited the ship on 15 June in Fremantle. The Captain of the ship called on Hon. Speaker of New South Wales Parliament.
     

     


Dr. K. Kasturirangan
  K.R. Narayanan Oration

Dr. K. Kasturirangan, Rajya Sabha MP and Director, National Institute of Advanced Studies, Bangalore, India, will deliver the tenth K.R. Narayanan Oration organized by the Australian National University (ANU), Canberra.

The Oration will be delivered on 20 July 2006 at 5.30pm-6.30 pm at the Common Room, University House, ANU. The topic of the Oration is “India’s Space Enterprise: A case Study in Strategic Thinking and Planning.” High Commissioner of India to Australia, H.E. Mr. P.P. Shukla, will read a message from President of India on the occasion.

Dr. Kasturangan is a prominent space physicist. He has been closely involved with the Indian space program for over nine years as Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation, Space Commission and Secretary to the Government of India in the Department of Space. He has received several national and international awards.
     
 
 
Australia announces scholarships for Indians
The Australian Government has announced two scholarships exclusively for the Indian students. The 'Endeavour India Research Fellowships' will enable top Indian and Australian researchers to carry out short-term post graduate or post doctoral research in each other's countries according to a press release.

The 'Endeavour India Executive Awards' would target high achieving officials in Government, business, industry and education sectors to undertake professional development opportunities at counterpart institutions in each other's countries, it said, adding the last date for applying for these scholarships is July 31. Over five years from July this year, Australian scholarships would more than double the number of education awards offered for the region. The awards would be granted to more than 19,000 people for study and research in Australia at a cost of 1.4 billion dollars, it said. Awards available for Indian and other students include Endeavour Asia Awards, Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Awards, Endeavour Postgraduate Awards, Endeavour Research Fellowships, Endeavour Executive Awards, Endeavour International Postgraduate Research Scholarships and Endeavour Vocational Technical Education Awards, it said.
 
 
   
 
     
  Invitation for Expression of Interest for port development
         
The Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, is inviting global Expression of Interest from reputed consultants for development of a new deep sea port on the coastline of the State of West Bengal, India. The draft Terms of Reference (ToR) of the proposed consultancy are available on the Ministry’s website: www.shipping.nic.in.   The ToR are intended to be discussed with the parties to be short-listed from amongst those responding to the notice for Expression of Interest. Interested consultants may submit their response by 31 July, 2006, to Deputy Secretary (PHRD), Room No.413, Department of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Transport Bhavan,   New Delhi, India, giving details of their background, contact details and experience.
